Welcome!
Clay
County, one of the smallest counties in North Carolina, is known for
its white water rafting areas, beautiful lakes, and the Nantahala
National Forest. Two thirds of Clay County is controlled by the Unite
States Forest Service and TVA.
Hayesville, the "largest" town in
Clay County, is within a two hour
drive to Atlanta, GA, Knoxville, TN, and Asheville, NC; the proximity
to these three cities makes living in the 900+ population of the
Hayesville area very attractive. Lake Chatuga, only a short drive away,
straddles the GA and NC state line with 130 miles of shore line.
Having
the Nantahala
National Forest on two sides of the county allows
many recreation access points including Fires Creek, Tuni Gap and Standing
Indian which leads to the Appalachian Trail.
